OPT8241-CDK-EVM: grounding scheme

Part Number: OPT8241-CDK-EVM

In the EVM documentation, there are two schematic nets for ground connections GND and GND_SIGNAL. This applies to both the sensor board and the illumination board. The PCB layout files indicate they are separate, and I cannot find any place in the schematics where they are tied together. Can you please explain how this is possible or what I am missing?

Hi James,

Are you referring to the OPT8241-CDK-EVM schematics? Are they not tied back at the PMIC?

I see now that they are indeed tied together by the OPT8241 chip on the sensor board. However, only GND is brought out to the illumination board via the connector. GND_SIGNAL is not brought out. What's odd is that on the illumination board schematic and layout, there are two distinct grounds GND and GND_SIGNAL and I can't for the life of me see how they are tied together. Any insight would be appreciated.

After talking to our engineer who designed the board, the two grounds are bridge at the edge of the board.
