OPT8241-CDK-EVM: unambiguous range and usable range.

Part Number: OPT8241-CDK-EVM

i'm interested in evaluating this product for an application that will require 5-6 m range in outdoor conditions.

From the User's Guide (SBOU155B) it states (table 6 about calibration in 'High Ambient') that the Usable range is 1.5 m even if the unambiguous range is 4 m.

My first doubt is whether that usable range only applies to calibration.

Second question is if the outdoor range can be improved by using an IR filter in front of the lens.

  • Please use the System Estimator tool to help you determine if it is possible. At very high ambient condition, OPT8241-CDK-EVM, with its camera design parameter, is able to achieve ~1.5m. However long range is possible for one will have to reduce integration duty cycle to a minimum to avoid saturation. While there is already a IR filter on the sensor itself about 30nm wide, adding narrower band pass IR filter can help.
  • thanks, i already did in the meantime. I think and hope I could get away with resolutions of 200 mm at 4m. Will try with the Ev Kit.
