LDC2114: LDC2114 to replace LDC1314

Part Number: LDC2114
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00508, LDC1101, TIDA-00615, LDC0851, TIDA-00828

HI Sir

We would like to use LDC2114 to do below application

Due to this application will use 2 pcs of alkaline battery and need to support 1.8V

  • Hello,
The LDC2114 is not compatbile with this design because the TIDA-00508 works on the principle of absolute position and the LDC2114 only provides relative measurements. As an alternative you could add a boost converter from 1.8V to 3.3V to maintain the existing approach or you could use 4 of the LDC1101 devices which support both 1.8V and absolute position sensing.

  • HI Luke

I saw a reference design as below ,May I know this reference can support 1 degree resolution
We would like to do a product and similar with Surface Dial

If you have this demo video ,Please kindly help to share the link

    Thanks

  • Hello,
Both the 1-degree dial reference design (TIDA-00508) and the 32 position incremental encoder reference designs (TIDA-00828 and TIDA-00615) are not compatible with a baseline tracking algorithm which is inherent to the LDC2114. Now if you're interested in an incremental encoder like the 32 position incremental encoder design, then you could use the LDC0851 as shown in the reference guide (www.ti.com/.../tidubg5). The LDC0851 device works with 1.8V, but is not inherently low power without externally duty cycling. Also in order to support a 1-degree version of this demo, the dial would have to be very large (>100mm) because of the small coil diameter required to isolate 1 degree of rotation and the restriction of >2µH for the LDC0851 sensor. It still may be easier to add a small boost converter on the supply or use multiple LDC1101's as mentioned in the post above.
    Regards,
    Luke
