OPT8241-CDK-EVM: I2C devices with same addresses

Part Number: OPT8241-CDK-EVM

On ILLUM board, there is two devices (U18 and U21) on I2C_SLV bus that have the same address (0x54).

I've read in another post that CAT24C02 EEPROM is not used and not populated, but on the EVM I have (REV 2P0), I can see that U21 is populated.

How can this design work with two devices with the same address on the same I2C bus?

  • I agree that both address are set to 0x54.  U21 is normally not populated.  If it is populated, though not recommended, one response to read (EEPROM), the other one response to write (digital pot).  We recommend DNP on U21.

  • Ok, BOM shows it's populated and it is mounted on my EVM... At least, it's working, but it's really confusing when you try to refer to your design. It would be a nice thing to update documentation regarding this product!

    Thanks for the answer Larry.
