HDC1010: Nature of the IC

Part Number: HDC1010

Is the HDC1010 an analog IC? It ought to be so, because temperature data cannot be digital. Then why does TI market it as a digital humidity sensor? The output is forcefully made digital here to give the user flexibility in the resolution of the reading!

  • Howdy Diptangshu,

A block diagram is viewable in page 1 of the HDC1010 datasheet.  Temperature and Relative Humidity sensors are multiplexed into an ADC, and digital data is processed and stored into registers view-able in the register map page.  You are correct that there are indeed analog portions within the device, however it is considered digital as the interface (I2C) is digital, and not a voltage or current output.  If this answers your question please press the Verified button.
