PGA460: The max measurement distance for PGA460

Part Number: PGA460
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000,

Hi team,

The customer needs to select a ultrasonic AFE for the blind navigation application. The measure distance should meet 6m in air.

I would like to confirm what the measure distance is in air for PGA460, PGA450 and TDC1000.

Can PGA460 be meet the customer's application? I also need to get the transducer frequency range.

Best Wishes,

  • Hi Mickey,

The measurement distance will depend a lot on the transducer selection and driving topology. The maximum range of the TDC1000 (limited by the echo listen period) is about 1.2m one way (2.4m round trip) although it would be difficult to reach even that number due to the small voltage direct drive of the TDC1000.

In general the PGA460 is the correct choice over the TDC1000 for all air-coupled distance measurement applications. From a listen length standpoint, the PGA460 can certainly measure up to and beyond 6m in air. However, as mentioned above this is highly dependent on the total system including transducer, driving topology, and target type and size. I've notified Akeem, who can better help you understand these variables to assist the customer.
