IWR1443BOOST: IWR14xx question

Part Number: IWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVE-STUDIO, IWR1443

Hi Champs,

We have several question for mmwave rador

1) Could you please tell us what is purpose for TSW400 EVM ?

-For AWR12xx, this EVM help to analyze "raw ADC". but, I couldn't make sense this EVM for IWR144x

At previous version, this TSW help to use mmwave-studio. however, latest  mmwave-studio version doesn't need TSW400 EVM.

2) We would like to know how to capture this visualizer data. I think when we push "record start" and "record stop" , .dat file will be created.

However, we don't know how to load this file. Could you please tell us this method ?

3) Usually, we need access to visualizer to the cloud. However, we would like to use it standalone. Because, our test have to go to outside area that  is not available to connect to Ethernet.

4) According to theory, usually IWR1443 EVM basic theory  range resolution is almost 3.75cm. And this equation calculated by dres=c/2B.

However, when we realize heart breath demo, this resolution is close to um or mm. How did you realize this ? Is this software adjustment ?

5) Between Rx and Rx antenna distance , this equation is λ/4. Could you please tell us this exact λ number on the IWR14xx EVM ?

6) Do you have any comparison table for each of range and resolution ? i.e) maximum Range = 70m , resolution ?  and so on

Regards,

Kz777

  • Hi Kz777,

I can only answer question 4 right now but I've asked someone to assist on the others.

    4) Range resolution is 3.75 cm but this is not the same as accuracy. Resolution means the distance that separates two objects in order for the sensor to distinguish they are two distinct objects. There are many manipulations we can make to achieve sub-mm or even um accuracy but the range resolution is going to be fixed at 3.75 cm.

  • Hi Kz,

    1) The TSW1400 allows you to collect the raw data from the EVM's adc. If you want to use Radar Studio to collect data, you will need this. - MMWave studio does not operate with raw data; the EVM processes the raw data (FFT, CFAR) and returns detected points and values to the mmwave-studio software.

    2) This is explained in the mmWave Demo User's Guide - section 4.4

    3) You can download the demo as an executable. At the dev.ti.com/gallery page, you will have this option if you hover your mouse over the mmWave Demo button.

    5) The antennas are designed for 78 GHz operation. Then wavelength is 3.84 mm, and rx spacing is 1.92 mm.

    6) There are a lot of options when designing a chirp, so we cannot put together a table with this information. However, you can use the mmWave Sensing Estimator to design a chirp with optimal parameters.
