PGA460: Current Consumption with Direct-Driven Method

Part Number: PGA460

Hi,

Could you please tell me the current consumption(the average and peak current) with the direct-drivne method which is mentioned on page 108 of PGA460 data sheet ?
The design parameters including the external PMOS FET and transducer are shown as below.

Best regards,
Kato

  • Hi Kato,

The mean current should stay close to 12mA, the current drawn by the PGA460 when listening or idling. The peak current primarily depends upon the drive current limit that you select. For the direct-driven method, you should not need to use a drive current limit higher than 50mA. If you probe the supply current during bursting cycles, you may notice spikes under 100mA that are higher than the drive current limit. These are caused by the system preparing to drive the transducer and remain fairly constant across the range of possible current limits. Even so, the bursting time of the PGA460 is very short compared to the listening time, so higher peaks will not significantly affect the mean current.

  • Hi Kristin-san,

    Thank you for your explanation.

    I understood.

    Best regards,
