IWR1443: Generating config files

Part Number: IWR1443
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642

Team,

my customer is testing with IWR1443 and AWR1642 BOOST kits and has some questions:

1.
What is the best way to generate config files for the devices?
Using the Sensing Estimator tends to not give back valid profileCfg.
Is it correct, that Radar Studio only works with the Boost Kit plus the DevPack?

2.
Is there a MATLAB file or a detailed documentation available to read the .dat files of the demo visualizer?
The capture_demo.m to read the ADC data with CCS Studio works but as we are interested in the Range Azimuth Heat Map this would be a great step forward.

Thanks for your support!

  • Hi FRAMziskus,

    1. You are correct, you must have MMWAVE-DEVPACK in order to use Radar Studio. The configuration that is output from the Sensing Estimator might now always work for the standard labs and demos although if you are looking for the profileCfg there is a way to do it using your browser tools as discussed in this thread: e2e.ti.com/.../2362289

    2. There is! Check out this thread: e2e.ti.com/.../2353393

Let me know if you have more questions.

    Cheers,
    Akash
  • Hey Akash,

thanks for the information to the first question.
The hind using F12 and the browser console helped a lot in finding functional configs.

    regarding the 2. question:
I found the mentioned thread already, but it is no solution for using the recorded data from the Demo Visualizer as mentioned and still unsolved in the following thread:

    CCS 1643 Capture Demo

Is the assumtion correct, that the data for the Range Azimuth Heat Map is calculated on the IWR1441 Boost kit?

  • Hi Jon,

These are very good questions but they are outside the scope of this thread. If you open up a new thread we can have an appropriate expert take a look at it.

    Cheers,
    Akash
  • Hi Aksah,

I will open a new thread for the question where the Range Map is calculated but the 2. Question FRAMziskus posted on my request it still open.

    Regards

    Jon

  • Hi FRAMziskus,

Currently, we do not have a software solution for analyzing the recorded file. For information on the structure of the data, see the mmw_demo user guide: If you have the SDK installed, find the guide here: C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_01_01_00_02\packages\ti\demo\xwr16xx\mmw\docs\doxygen\html\index.html - the information you will need is in "Output information sent to host."

However, there is a version of the OOB Demo in Beta the will record the same data and output it in human readable format in CSV. Find it here: dev.ti.com/.../

The data used for the Range Azimuth Heat Map is calculated in the IWR14xx. We recommend only running one heat map at a time because each heat map requires a lot of data to be sent over UART.

    Justin
