IWR1642BOOST: Maximum range much shorter

Part Number: IWR1642BOOST

Hello,

I recently started to experiment with TI mmWave IWR1642BOOST module, but the maximum range on my tests turned out to be much shorter than specified.

My tests were conducted with walking person holding a piece of sheet metal (74x60cm) in hands to achieve better RCS. Scenes looked like this:

Module was mounted on a ladder (heigth ~170cm) and on a chair (heigth ~55cm) later for another test, but result was more or less the same.

I used a simple power supply made from an used PC switched-mode supply.

I tested with all three default demo configurations, but all of them failed to detect anything further than ~15m from the sensor.
Tests with demo configurations were done on an asphalt road, shown on the left picture above. I tried to tweak default configurations a little, but maximum ranges were still around 15m.

Heat maps also failed to indicate any targets moving further than 15m. I posted Range Profile below.

Because i thought, that i must be doing something wrong, i loaded configuration from an article http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDEP-0094 to my device. Results were a bit better, but still max range was ~20m.
Tests with a configuration from the article were done on an asphalt road, shown on the right picture above.

Heat maps also failed to indicate any targets moving further than 20m.

My question is, has anyone experienced similar problem? Or am i doing something totaly wrong?
