TDC1000-TDC7200EVM: clock source

Part Number: TDC1000-TDC7200EVM

I want use TDC1000 + TDC7200 for water meter purpose.

I have read the "MSP430 Value Line Sensing MCUs" where I found "Programmable Clock Source Using MSP430 MCUs".

The datasheet of MSP430 have a 0.25% jitter (clock to clock). The EVM use an oscillator with 60ps jitter @ 100MHz.

My question is:

May I think to use the MSP430 as clock source for the EVM or not (because the jitter is too high)?

Thank you in advance

Luca

  • Hi Luca,

It is certainly possible to use the integrated clock function of the MSP430, and that is actually an option that you can evaluate using the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM. You can select to use an external oscillator or the clock source from the MSP430 on the EVM. You will lose a bit of accuracy with the higher jitter, but if that is acceptable for your application, it is a very efficient solution.

    Regards,
