OPT8241-CDK-EVM: Cooling

I am worried about temperature issues with the OPT8241 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) Sensor Evaluation Module.

After several working hours the area aroung the warm caution label gets really hot and is bringing performance problems to our device.

I would like to know if, as it seems to be prepared to due the drill holes, exists any cooling solution I can attach to the golden are pointed by the label.

I could not find any recommendations or indications about attaching a standard cooling solution. Can someone tell me?

Hi!

We have removed the solder mask from the bottom side of the laser to allow for a possibility to attach a heat sink. But we have not designed any heat sink for the same. If you would like to, you may design the heat sink and see if that works better for you.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your experience, it is greatly appreciated.

I was expecting some plug'n'play experience feedback so I don't have to modify the device but to attach to the warned hot plane.

From the lack of answers on this topic I feel this is not a big issue for the rest of users while my device keeps having temperature issues.

I will try some and report any success,

Hi Iker,

Yes. We see that the area near the labels can get hotter. That is the reason the labels are present on the camera.
We don't usually expect it to be too hot to cause concern. However if you would like to try attaching heat sinks, you could use a self adhesive type heat sink like the following:

To avoid shorting components, if you want to connect the heat sink to the top side of the PCB, you can try the following thermal interface material: thermal.henkel-adhesives.com/.../sil-pads.html

Digikey has other heatsink designs which can give you ideas of how to use these. The thermal interface material is also quite versatile and it can help you come up with good heat sinking solutions along with the heat sink designs.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. Sure I will try.
Would you recommend any fan? I mean, is passive dissipation expected to do the job or active (fan) would be recommended?
