IWR1443BOOST: Several issues while post processing raw data

Part Number: IWR1443BOOST

Hello everyone,

I am currently testing several different configurations. In RadarStudio I configure the sensor with my calculated parameters and then use the PostProc tool (I have my own tool for further analysing, but I refere only to the RadarStudio tool in this post).

I am facing more than one issue and I will list them al lin this post. If you want me to open seperate topics, I will do so, but please try to give me an answer for at least my first question :) Thank you!

1. My configuration should be for ~10m. When I am moving an object in front of the sensor (not to fast), I see a very strange behaviour.

Event though the object is not to big (~20cm deep), there are peaks in many other range bins. The object is at ~1m and moving to and away from the radar. I see peaks from -2m to +4m. How can this be explained? What can I do against this?

Please take a look at following screenshot.

Object is not moving:

Object is moving:

Object still moving in same direction:

Object is moving in other direction:

The "diagonal line" in 2D matrix is moving like a "windmill" from one side to the other (depending on moving direction).

2. From my calculations, the unambiguous range should be 10m. Why is the range area from -5 to +5m ?

Equation for d_max is: d_max = (f_sampling * c) / (2*Slope) = (2000kHz * c) / (2* 29.933 MHz / us) = 10.0154 m

I attached a screenshot showing the sensor config I used:

3. Last question: I wanted to use a sampling frequency of f_s = 2000 kHz, n_samples = 128 and a Slope of 29.933 MHz.

The Ramp Timing Calculator then caluclates a idle time of 5us. When I tried this value in the RadarStudio SensorConfig, the RadarStudio gives me an error:

"MAXIMUM DFE SPILL TIME > PF_IDLE_TIME_CONS". I increased the idle time to 7us and everything worked. But I think there is a bug in the RTC. Or did i do anything wrong?

Thanks for your reply,

Enric
