AWR1243: Development of Radar Object detection module using awr1243 with tda3x

Part Number: AWR1243
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642, AWR1443

Hi,

In the object detection module using awr1243 & tda3x,while referring the documents I came across with the following terms:

MMWave DFP , MMWAVE-DEVPACK, mmWave Software Development Kit (SDK), mmWave Studio, mmwave Demo Visualizer and Radar Studio.

Can anyone say me how these tools/packages are interlinked ?  Are all of these  mandatory for the desired project development.? And the main basic idea behind Radar Studio?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Varsha

  • Hi,

Can you please provide more details about your project?

Here is some information about the modules you mentioned

    1) MMWave DFP
This is a package that includes
    - firmware for the xWR sensor devices (xWR1242, xWr1443, xWR1642).
    - Radar Studio Software and Documentation
    - mmWave Link Library

    2) MMWAVE-DEVPACK is a hardware board
    - It is required when using Radar Studio

    3) mmWave SDK
    - It is an SDK to develop software on the mmWave sensors that include a programming core (xWR1443, xWR1642)
    www.ti.com/.../mmwave-sdk

    4) mmWave Studio
    Please read Description
    www.ti.com/.../MMWAVE-STUDIO

    5) Radar Studio
    - it is part of the MMWave DFP - see 1)

    Thank you
  • Hi Cesar,

Thanks for the quick reply. We are using TDA2x+ and AWR1243 in our project. As per my understanding: We are using the TDA2x for processing & the module AWR1243 for the sensing. So, RadarSDK provides all the functionalities that we are supposed to need. mmwave SDK is used for advanced modules like AWR14xx & AWR16x. So , we don't need to worry about mmwaveSDK. Is this correct? And in the demo TI videos, matlab GUI is used to check the output, So can we use mmwave demo visualizer instead of that?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Varsha,

Since you are only using the AWR1243, you will only need the mmWave DFP. You will not need the mmWave SDK since the AWR1243 is only acting as a front end device. All of the software programming will be done on the TDA2x+. The TDA device will issue the mmWave API commands over serial connection to the AWR1243 and the AWR1243 will send out data over one of the high speed interfaces, most often CSI-2.

The mmWave demo visualizer was designed for the AWR1443 and AWR1642 and you would not be able to use the AWR1243 with this visualizer. That is why the MATLAB GUI is used to visualize the output for AWR1243.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
