We are developing a product around the IWR1443 and simulaltanously the 1642. Other wireless products we have used 'inherit' FCC approval. What are the procedures on getting FCC approval to use this for sand silo tank level measurement? I understand that getting approval may not be that difficult in some situations. Please send links of applicable certification procedures. Thanks

Hi Peter,

We do not have designated procedure available at this time because of the high degree of variance amongst different mmWave Applications. The general procedure is to contact an FCC approved certification test lab and describe your end product to them. They would then outline all the necessary tests to be done in order achieve certification. These labs typically work closely with the FCC to make sure their test procedures are approved for certification.

FCC request for quote forms request power levels. What is the approximate radiated power level for the IWR 1443 and approximate current used when idle and during transmission? I am not able to find it in the docs. Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter,

While nominal values are available in the IWR1642 Datasheet, a lot of this is going to come from the way you configure and use the device so I am unable to comment here.

I could not find the closest distance that it will operate in the spec sheet or any of the tutorials. Min range seems to be about 3ft. In general, can it work at a 1ft range. Perhaps, this is too close. Thanks

Your video shows the fluid about .1m. When testing with a metal plate target, it would not work closer than .9m

It seemed as if there was a minimum distance but perhaps, it is just our test rig.

Perhaps, you use a special Config file to get close up accuracy in a small tank. The config file we have been using on the high accuracy visualizer goes out to 40m. Please send the config files for the 1443 and 1642 for high accuracy and smaller tanks. thanks

Hi Peter,

The chirp configs are available in the pjt folder and are called profile_2db.txt and profile_2de.txt for IWR1443 version and then called accuracyTest1.txt for IWR1642 version.
