TDC1000-TDC7200EVM: Why does tank level changes when I change the number of pulses?

Part Number: TDC1000-TDC7200EVM

Hello,

Whenever I change the number of pulses in NUM-TX I get a different tank level reading for every increment. Why?

  • Hello,

How much do the level readings change with the NUM-TX? Can you send a screenshot of the graphing tab from the GUI in a couple of different configurations?

The most likely cause is that the transducer ringdown time is increasing with the increase in TX pulses, and reaching past the blanking time, causing the TDC1000 to see a receive signal that is actually just part of the transmission.

Can you also send a scope capture that shows the TX pin, the COMPIN pin, the START signal, and the STOP signal from the TDC1000? This will help debug.

Finally, another cause could be that the transducer is not properly mounted to the bottom of your tank. Please review this application note on mounting transducers to make sure that your setup is working properly: www.ti.com/.../snaa266a.pdf
