AWR1443: mmWave Demo Visualizer on new AWR1443 chip

Part Number: AWR1443
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , UNIFLASH

Hello,

I have a custom board utilizing the AWR1443 which is designed very closely to the AWR1443BOOST in a different form factor.  I would like to test the hardware (primarily new antenna design) utilizing the mmWave Demo Visualizer.  I have successfully loaded the image files to the device:

Upon opening the Visualizer, I configure the serial port correctly, set the Platform to xWR14xx, the SDK version to 1.1 and leave the rest as is.  I successfully get the Hardware Connected response:

When I press the Send Config To MMWave Device, I get no response in the Console Messages window.  When I check the Help/About window there is no device specified:

Is there anything other than the binary files shown above that would be needed for this to work?  Thanks in advance for any help!

Regards,

Brendan

  • Hi Brendan,

This behavior seems consistent with a board that is still in flashing mode. Can you confirm that you have removed the SOP2 jumper after flashing?

  • Hi Akash,

I agree but unfortunately I have confirmed the SOP2 jumper is off AND the voltage is a logic low on board.

  • Hi Brendan,

It will be difficult to debug this without any knowledge of your custom board. What kind of information are you willing to share here?

Does this visualizer work with standard AWR1443BOOST board? If it does not then we know the problem is likely a software one, otherwise it seems like a hardware one right now.

  • Hi Akash,

The custom board utilizes the AWR1443BOOST design in a different form factor and a different flash chip (S25FL132K0XNF).  All other interconnects and components are the same.  I ordered the AWR1443 chips directly from TI in addition to the TM4C1294 chips.

Upon initial plugin to the PC, I need to load the XDS110 bootloader and firmware binary files onto the TM4C1294 chip utilizing the XDSDFU program.  Once successful, I use UniFlash to format the SFLASH and then successfully program the image files (both RadarSS and MSS found in the mmwave_sdk_01_01_00_02 folder).  I compared the console output of the AWR1443BOOST with my custom board during this process and they were matched line for line.

I then change the serial number of the device in the XDSDFU program to make it look like a AWR1443BOOST (I have tried it without doing this as well).

After a power reset and running the Visualizer, I run into the problems described previously.  Does TI supply a chip driver that I would be able to eliminate the Visualizer from this problem?

    Regards,

    Brendan

  • Hi Brendan,

You could run the AWR1443 in CCS_Debug mode for this. The steps for doing this are available here on page 14 and onwards: dev.ti.com/.../
