IWR1642: 5cm Range , 50um accuracy

Hi Experts,

Can we achieve to measure the distance of object with 50 micro meter accuracy? The distance from mmWave to object is 5 cm.

Hi Uchikoshi,

Sorry this is not the application range of high accuracy lab. We need the object to be a few cms away and the accuracy is in sub-mm range.

Uchikoshi,

The issue with object close to the EVM is that we have a high pass filter(HPF) which can not be disabled. Depending on how strong RCS(radar cross section) is for the target, signal might overcome HPF attenuation. Closest would be 8-10 cm.

Thank you so much for your support. 10cm might be acceptable for our system. That's good news.
For starting point for this use-case, "High Accuracy Range measurement" Labs on TI Resource Explorer seems to be suitable.

122GHz with 7GHz FMCW gives you what you want. :)
I personally get 30 micro accurasy using phase shift.
