IWR1443BOOST: The evaluation method of specific antenna using evaluation board

Part Number: IWR1443BOOST

Hi Expert,

I would like to evaluate the own antenna by replacing the pattern antenna of IWR1443BOOST.
What kind of modification should be made?

Best regards,
H.U

  • Hello,
The signal integrity may be poor if you attempt this. The Rx and Tx RF feeds would need to be isolated from the existng mmwave BOOST board antenna, you would route these in miniature 50 ohm coax over a short distance to a board mechancially mounted on top of the EVM antenna area.

Alternately it may be easier to solder 1mm connectors to the trace area s,

In your replacement antenna you would need to electrically isolate the bottom of L2 RF GND. All of the coax shields would be tied to this new L2 GND plane. You would need to have matched lengths for this coax, all Rx matched, and separately all Tx matched.

The RF trace attachments for the new antenna would be along a stripline extension to the antenna patch area.

The L2 ground patch has to be slightly larger than the are of the patch.

I have never tried this, please let us know if it works. I have only used the EVM antenna.
