Linux/AWR1443BOOST: Reset online; switch between high resolution and long range

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST

Tool/software: Linux

Hello,

I am playing and trying AWR1443BOOST to see if we can use the radar sensor in our drone application. Every time I change the configuration, I need to reset the EVM to make the changes "being effect". I believe there will be an API to write the GPIO pin of "reset", would you mind guide me on how to do this.

I have this question, as we want to switch between resolution and range: high resolution (4cm) with range of 4.5m, vs., normal resolution (30cm) with range of 16m. That means when the object is far, normal resolution with long range; while the object is close, high resolution with short range.

I would like your confirmation that we can do the switch between high resolution and normal resolution online. If the change of this configuration requires reset to take effect, is there an online reset function, and if there is such reset function, how long will it take into effect.

Thanks!

Best Regards,

  • Yes,

This is possible by combining different chirp configurations.

  • I want to know if it is required to reset to make changes in effect. If reset is required to make changes in effect, how long will it take to do the reset? If a reset is not required to make changes in effect, what is the mechanism and what it the time to get the changed configuration works?
  • Hi Tao,

TI Radar devices support configuring multi-mode sensing configurations without the need to reset the device to switch between configurations. This is explained in the app note: Programming Chirp parameters in TI Radar Devices under the Advanced Chirp Configurations section. Once you have understood the theoretical aspects, please refer to the mmWave SDK users guide for details including an example profile configuration which is available under <mmwave_sdk_01_02_00_05>\packages\ti\demo\xwr16xx\mmw\profiles\profile_advanced_subframe.cfg.

    Thanks
