AWR1642BOOST: Questions about AR_RS232TX and AR_RS232RX

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642

I need to use the command UART (UART0) in the AWR1642 booster pack.

This UART is  used in the Demo project to connect with the PC COM port via a micro-USB cable.

Then the Demo Visualizer can  communicate with the Demo program running within an AWR1642 booster pack.

For some reasons, I want to use this UART to connect my own device now.

I look over the schematic of the booster pack and decide to wire out the PIN 5 (AR_RS232TX) and PIN 7  (AR_RS232RX) in J6 connector to connect to the RS232 connector in my own device.

The signal level is standard RS232 level, not UART TTL level, for the RS232 connector in my own device.

Are they (AR_RS232TX and AR_RS232RX) the correct/good pins for me to connect my own device?

Do I need some extra circuit to change the signal level of AR_RS232TX and AR_RS232RX?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advanced.

  • Hi Steven,

Please refer to this post regarding the necessary hardware changes to use the UART signals of the BoosterPack connectors.

Indeed the corresponding GPIOs use CMOS voltage levels, not RS232 ones. You may consider using our RS232 transceiver BoosterPack (link) that converts to RS232 levels and has a DB9 connector.
