AWR1642BOOST: detection through vegetation?

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST

Hi,

will the AWR1642BOOST be able to detect an object through vegetation?

The application is basically the following - see figure.
The position (angle) of an aluminium column (about 5x5 cm, 2 m height) should be detected, probably as a point cloud. The points will then be interpolated to calculate the angle.
The column is completely covered in vegetation (leafs, about 30 cm thick). The columns are connected with wires. There will be likely more than few thousand columns to be detected, one after each other.
It is for an vineyard, the columns are holding the wires with the vine.
The column angle has to be measured in order to adjust the cutting, not to cut into the metallic structure (automatically). The sensor should be mounted on a similar machine to the one shown here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXKH6O1S6As

Thank you

Martin

  • Hi Martin,

We have not conducted any tests on vegetation although a big part of it is going to depend on hydration of said vegetation. Since mmWave tends to reflect very well off of water, the vegetation should be noticeable. Aluminum on the other hand is a very reflective surface so the sensor should be able to differentiate the two.

    Cheers,
