AWR1642: Ranging direction: objects behind the device. Effects of a metal housing

Part Number: AWR1642

Hy all,

when looking at the data from the out-of-box demo it seems to me, that objects behind the antenna also influence the data. Is that possible?

For a later series device we planned to mount the antenna directly at a metal roof, looking downward. Do we need to consider a free space right behind the antenna? Does a metal housing at the back influence results?

Best regards

Harald

  • Hi Harald,

It is very possible depending how far away the metal in front of the sensor as as behind it. There could be objects showing up as "reflections" here although it is somewhat easy to determine which objects these are since they have a lower SNR.

If you wanted to post a picture of your scene we could comment on this further.

    Cheers,
