FDC1004: Component placement

Part Number: FDC1004

Will the sensing performance be affected if i place other components on the opposite side on the PCB of the capacitive sensing area.

  • Christopher,

Components on the opposite side will introduce parasitic capacitances that will affect your sensor. However, the FDC1004 has a way around this with the shielding option.

If you can connect an internal layer of your PCB (directly beneath your capacitive sensor) to the SHIELD pin of the FDC1004, the effects of components on the opposite side of the PCB should be minimized.
