IWR1642BOOST: IWR1642BOOST

Part Number: IWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642BOOST

Dear David Wilson,

we are working with the AWR1642BOOST Kit and with the out of the box application.

We want to measure metal object in the short distance by around 1m and measuring only the distance to the objects. Now we are limited by the range resolution (5cm) and the angle resolution.

We don’t measure the velocity of the objects.

My question is how we can improve the range resolution and the angle resolution that we can detect smaller multiple objects? Is there any other product that you prefer for our goal?

Best regards

Matthias

  • Hi Matthias,

So just to clarify you are looking to improve Range Accuracy, not necessarily Range Resolution (Range Resolution is the minimum distance between two objects in order for the sensor to detect them as two distinct objects).

One method for improving accuracy is the Zoom FFT which is implemented in our High Accuracy Lab. This lab only returns the distance to a single object with sub-mm accuracy, although it is possible to modify this in order to detect multiple objects. dev.ti.com/.../

I'd also recommend looking at the mmWave Sensing estimator to see how you can better "tune" the sensor for your application. dev.ti.com/.../
