AWR1642: Connecting AWR1642 sensor to MSP432P401R high-precision ADC LaunchPad™

We are a group of students who are working on an automotive project using MSP432P401R launchpad. The main aim of the project is to calculate the distance of the car that is moving in front of you. We have decided to use the AWR1642 mmWave sensor for our application. Is it possible to connect the AWR1642 sensor directly to the launchpad for measuring the distance? or do we need an AWR1642boost as an intermediatory to connect the AWR1642 sensor to the MSP432P401R launchpad?

Why do you need the MSP432? What peripheral do you plan to connect?

Hi,

We have a design for Industrial purposes that piggypacks an IWR1443 onto an MSP432P401R. The 20-pin headers between IWR1443 and AWR1642 are pretty much the same. It uses SPI to transfer chirp results to the MSP432. The software for the demo can be found here:

We are expected to use the MSP432 launchpad compulsorily as a part of the Texas instruments Challenge. Our aim is to display the distance to the user through an LCD screen. So the signal goes like this , from AW1642 to MSP432 to LCD screen. I hope this is what you are asking.

AWR1642 is the chip containing the radar front end, R4F and C674 processing cores. AWR1642boost refers to the evaluation module (EVM) that allows testing/prototyping.

Okay, So If I want to collect and analyse the data from the AWR1642 sensor, Can I do it by connecting the sensor to MSP432 and then connect the MSP432 to my laptop? I must collect the radar data and then display the distance on a LSC screen.

Yes. Following the example provided, the AWR1642 would send radar output to MSP432 via SPI, then MSP432 forwards it to the PC via UART.
