Dear All,

My customer needs to define the exact position of a tooth of a gear at the moment when the machine starts.

So far they are using a sensor which defines the position when the tooth starts doing some turns but now customer needs a sensor able to identify the position immediately without the machine starts moving.

Do we have anything like this?

Hi Antonio,

We would actually recommend using inductive sensors, not hall sensors, for this application. The LDC devices are capable of both event-counting as the gear turns and monitoring the exact position of a specific tooth (and the gear as a whole). This reference design uses the LDC1314 to keep track of the position of a 1-degree dial. It should help start you off with exploring LDC options for this application.
