OPT3101: OPT3101 measurement of 75m

Part Number: OPT3101

Hi,

I found the following sentence in section P26 7.3.1 of OPT3101 Datasheet.
"Performing a de-alias operation to extend the distance range from 15 m to 75 m"

I want to know how to achieve the distance measurement of 75m.
Could you reply the following two questions?
 1) Is it possible to measure 75m using EVM?
    2) Could you tell me the evaluating environment you used when measuring 75 m?

Best regards,

Y.Hashimoto

  • Hello Hashimoto-san,

We have received the inquiry about extending the distance range of OPT3101.
We will get back to you before the end of this week.
  • Hi,

In regular mode the modulation frequency of 10Mhz leads to unambiguous distance of 15m. Using the de-aliasing operation one could theoretically extend the range to 75m. But in practical scenario few different factors need to be considered. To reach that range, you have to transmit quite a lot of energy, which would then need to be checked for thermal dissipation and eye safety.

The EVM cannot reach that range. It can reach close to 10-15m, depending on the accuracy requirement. With retro-reflective objects it can reach longer. We will be releasing an application note showing some test results in few days.

    Thanks.
