AWR1642BOOST: Antenna design on AWR1642 BOOST

Hi,

We are using the AWR1642BOOST EVM, and we have some questions about the Antenna design.

Please refer to the picture attached.

There are 2 Grounds near Antenna (see the arrows point), may I know what’s the purpose for these Ground?
Are the Grounds for better Antenna performance, or the other functions?

Please help us to explore it and Thanks.

    Hello Janice,
    That GND plan is very far from the antenna element and does not impact the antenna performance much. This is mostly for thermal heat sinking. More GND plan around the device, connected using large number of through hole vias helps in dissipating the heat from the device to the PCB and spread it across the GND plans.
