IWR1642: Possible to get in direct contact with someone who helped design the people counting demo?

Part Number: IWR1642

Hello,

my name is Patrick and I am a student from Germany. I am currently planning to do my bachelor thesis with one of your products, the people count demo on your IWR1642BOOST device to be specific. I  therefore would like to get in contact with someone from the team. I have a few specific, non technical questions to you which I think would not be suitable to place them all in the e2e community.

It would would be a great help for me if someone could answer me these questions.

Best regards

Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

Please feel free to ask your questions here.

  • Hi Justin,

as I am planning to create a people counting system, similar to the the one one you did, but from the raw data the board delivers, I first would like to get a feeling of how much work is needed to realize this. Do you have any numbers of how much working hours and manpower you put in this project, so I can get an idea of it? Do you have any additional material which ist not already online but could be helpful to me?

    Thank you and best regards

    Patrick
  • Hi Patrick,

To develop a People Counting system, you will need to do 2 things:

    1. Generate a point cloud from the raw adc data
    2. Post Process the point cloud to determine what is and what isn't a person.

I cannot say how much time went into the development of the project.  If you do not understand FMCW Radar signal processing, I would recommend getting the basics under your belt before diving into a complex project like this.

If you already understand the radar processing, I would recommend starting with Matlab or a similar scripting language before writing the code in C.

    Regards,

    Justin
