Hi @ all,

I was wondering why the CDK SB designers chose to separate the power ground and keep digital and analog with a combined ground reference. IMHO it would make more sense to separate agnd and keep dgnd and pwrgnd together? Am I overthinking things?

Hi!

This is a good question. The digital and analog blocks inside the IC interact with each other so they need tightly tied ground potentials. The reason to separate the power ground is to avoid the effects of large ground currents which are characteristic of DCDC power supplies.
We would recommend to follow the ground connections that are made in the SB as far as OPT8241 pins are concerned.

You are not overthinking things. Ground connections are non-trivial decisions and need careful considerations.
