HDC1080: Aging HDC1080

Part Number: HDC1080

Hi, in the new agricultural sensor, we recorded an increase in RH measurement error. We have eight sensors, measuring temperature and RH, battery power. The sensor is in the radiation cover (no sun and rain), ambient temperatures 10-40 ° C. Prior to installing outside, the RH error was not greater than 3%, now, after three months, it is greater than 15%. Geographically, the sensors are in different places in the landscape. HDC1080 sensors do not have PTFE foil protection. Does anyone have a similar experience with aging of HDC1080 sensors?
Thanks in advance for advice.

  • Hi gt,

Thank you for posting to the e2e forums. May I ask about the conditions that the sensor is exposed to? Is there the possibility of agricultural products in the form of chemical liquids or vapors that the sensor may be exposed to? Does the packaging include any epoxy or glue materials that may out gas over time? Contaminants in the form of the previously described, along with dust and debris can be affecting the accuracy of the sensor.

    Matt
  • Hi gt,

Following up with the question above, please let me know if you have the answers to the questions.

  • Hi Matt,

I'm sorry, since Friday I'm not at work so I'm late and the information will be only partial, I have a vacation this week.

The sensors are located in the vineyard, and two or three may have chemical treatment of the vine, but not all. It seems like the error is now in anyone. We do not have all the sensors back, so I do not know if error is the same size everywhere.

Before we made the PCB we consulted with technology guy the document SNIA025.pdf, there should not be a problem. After testing, the PCB is also varnished against moisture (of course, outside of the sensor). No any glue is used in device. But you are right, gradual deterioration of all sensors seems to release some chemical, unfortunately it is a slow process, it will be difficult to test. When I get back to work, I'll ask about the moisture-proof varnish.

Matt, we have no experience using PTFE film, could it help in this case?

    Best Regards

    Jiri

  • Hi Jiri,

Thank you for the reply. Texas Instruments does not provide PTFE film for use, but you can reach out to a 3rd party vendor which may be able to provide you with information and samples that you can use on your prototype or HDC device.

    Best Regards,
    Matt
