HDC2010: HDC2010YPAR pass the salt mist test? Do you have any certificate?

We have a question to use humidity and temperature sensor(P/N: HDC2010YPAR) for outdoor. Because we need water proof and heavy salt tolerance for outdoor product, we wonder if this sensor can work in such harsh environment just like seaside and what action can we take.

Please help to suggest some solutions and highlight for outdoor sensor design.

If we want to work in such environment, what can we do for PCB design or ID mechanism design. Because not only sensor IC but also the other electronic components should pass the salt mist test. Please suggest some solutions.
Can the sensor pass the salt mist test? Do you have any certificate?

You may need to reach out to a 3rd party that has recommendations when designing around salt/(water-mist). The primary concern is that salt water is conductive and may damage the product if it is fully exposed to the environment. A recommendation is to ensure that no salt water or salt mist enters the device cavities as it would impact sensor performance. There may be filters on the market that would help with you design, such as a filter membrane that would help reduce any salt contaminants. You can obtain such filters by doing an online search, an example would be the following:

We plan to coat the PCB to protect the damage from salt mist. Is this a available solution to reduce salt contaminants? What should we pay attention to about sensor when coating?

Hi Eric,

You will need some protective tape to protect the sensor opening, such as kapton tape. You will need to ensure that the tape fully covers the sensor opening during conformal coating, as any vapor/paint into the sensor will damage the device.

I see PTFE film from the other answer. Can it protect the sensor from salt mist?

Howdy Eric,

You would need to ask this question to the manufacturers of this protective film. I know it helps protect against dust and water, but you will need to confirm if it protects against salt water. You can probably post this question to the 3rd party listed above.
