AWR1642: Booting and SBL Questions

Hi AWR Team,

I'm hoping you can help me with some questions from my customer regarding booting and the SBL.

Is there a way to perform a "hard reset" by a software command? A soft reset by software command is possible but this just reboots to MSS_TCMA_RAM memory, the PBL does not run, but what the customer is looking for is similar to a power on boot where the Primary Boot Loader loads from the external Flash then eclipses.

Is there a way to reverse eclipse? This would be where MSS_TCMA_RAM is returned to the address space 0x00200000-0x07FFFFFF and MSS_TCMA_ROM is exposed at 0x00000000-0x00017FFFF.

How can you load multi-image binaries - the question is where do DSS and BSS images go? The thought is that DSS is loaded to DSS_DSP_L1P, but there isn't any mention of BSS in the memory map.

According to SWRU520A (1642 TRM) no, only toggling power to NRESET will cause a full reset. There are means by which software can perform a soft reset.

I'm not sure of the utility of reversing the address space, but I imagine once control has passed out of the primary (ROM) bootloader, you can perform any allowable address mapping in a secondary bootloader or application.

Also, a follow up to the second question: The below is from the TRM's memory map section. Can you explain what it means by "Size Used"? Does it mean usable memory?

For MSS_TCMB the total size of the memory space is 0x04200000 (0x0C1FFFFF - 0x08000000 + 1), more than the 192K shown.

There is a file, "xwr1642_r4f.cmd", which seems to control where sectors are located. Changing the "DATA_RAM" parameter in xwr1642_r4f.cmd did change the start of TCMB routines, but resulted in unexecutable code, do you know of an acceptable range for DATA_RAM?

Also, since there is no way to do a hard reset by software, we will need to take different actions based on the source of the reset. The MSS_TOPRCM SYSRSTCAUSE register should tell my customer what the source is, but he is only getting "0" when he reads the register. How can he successfully read the register?

Hi Dave,

We looked at register at 0xFFFFE2FC (resolution from forum) and are getting different results:
Power on reset and reset switch -> 0x00000099
Soft reset -> 0x0000028C

According to the datasheet, it should be:
Power on reset and reset switch -> 0x00000009
Soft reset -> 0x00000008. Which is correct?

The "End" size 0x08000000 is 128MB. Size used refers to the available memory for that device. It is best to use what is found in the OOB demo's linker command files (or the generated .map file).

I don't see this register documented in either the TRM or datasheet. Perhaps you are looking at an old datasheet? My 2.0 boards come up with 0x00990099.
