AWR1443: mmwDemo - Sensor start failed with calibration error 0x7fe

Part Number: AWR1443
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642, , UNIFLASH

Hello team,

my customer has bought AWR1443 boosterpack, somehow when he using the unifalsh the kit is identified as AWR1642 (not as AWR1443).

he skipped the autodetected function in the uniflash, he chooses manually the AWR1443 chipset and flashes the mmw.bin demo. (so far so good)

when he runs the mmWave Demo Visualizer he got some difficulties which are not clear.

if he does not change any parameters in the Visualizer GUI (default settings), the polt works fine.

once he changing any parameter, for example, changing the freq band to 76-77 or any another parameter with got the following error

 mmwDemo:/>sensorStart

Debug: Init Calibration Status = 0x7fe

 Error -1

it happens when we used SDK 1.2 and SDK 1.1, Another strange phenomenon when we moved to SDK ver 1.0

the above error did not appear and polts works properly.

what could be the issue here, please advise.

Thanks in advance

Best regards,

Shai

  • It is possible that SDK 1.0 binaries are used.

I recommend the customer installs SDK 1.2 and follows the steps provided in the SDK User's Guide to run and build thr OOB demo.

    Thank you

  • Cesar,

the phenomenon happens from SDK 1.1 and above only when the customer used SDK 1.0 he was able to change the parameters without the error.
We are suspect that the board might have a defect because when I tried another EVM kit using the 1.2 SDK the mmWave OOB GUI let me do changes into parameters without the Calibration error message.

there is the way to verify if there is the defect in the EVM?
    Thanks in advance

  • Shai,

Since the board is able to run the OOB it does not seem that the EVM is defective.

Let me check with the team about possible reasons that can explain this behavior and I will get back to you

    thank you
    Cesar
  • Hi,

The error is not from calibration.  The 0x7fe status code is a passing value - it is a bit field that is indicating all calibration tasks have passed.  The error is very likely coming from the RF (BSS firmware) in that it tried to start, but something in the configuration parameters is not consistent with itself or with the hardware you are running on.

  • Hi,

It is possible that this is an older EVM with AWR1443 ES1.0 silicon.

If this is the case, only SDK 1.0 can be used

Can you please front and back pictures of EVM so we can identify the manufacturing date and serial number?

    Thank you
    Cesar
  • Hi,
I'll request it from the customer and let you know soon,
Thanks for answering us, best regards,
