AWR1443: "Intensity" units with ROS point cloud visualizer?

Part Number: AWR1443
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1443BOOST

Hello,

I am using the ROS driver (http://dev.ti.com/tirex/#/?link=Software%2FmmWave%20Sensors%2FIndustrial%20Toolbox%2FLabs%2FROS%20Point%20Cloud%20Visualizer to visualize point clouds with the AWR1443 boost board. The point cloud gives each point an x,y,z and intensity value. What units are the intensity values in? I tested and they appear to be negatively correlated with reflectivity / distance, so my guess is negative decibels but I haven't seen any documentation confirm or deny this.

  • Hello Eric,

The ROS mmWave demo just outputs the Peak Value parameter from the mmWave SDK mmw demo running on the mmWave sensor in dB (log scale). The Peak Value itself is described in the following post.
