AWR1243: question about amplitue and phase calibration when 4 chirps cascade

Part Number: AWR1243

1/can you confirm that there are 1ns random error caused by the frame sync signal between ADC channels?

2/ Does the calibration of the errors depend on the alignment of the virtual antennas?

I want to know if these errors can not be calibrated offline and can only be corrected during real-time processing of every radar cube by using the samples from overlapping virtual antennas.

3/ What is the requirement on the alignment of the virtual antennas to guarantee the correction of the random errors  if the question 1 is true?

  • Hi Rongjiang,

    1) The frame sync variation is listed in the cascade app note (www.ti.com/.../swra574a.pdf)

    2) The error is not dependent on the antenna , it’s mostly the variation inside the chip.
The systematic error due to process variation between chips can be calibrated out by looking at a phase mismatch between channels using a corner reflector at zero angle calibrations. The random error due to sampling variation cannot be calibrated , but this is very small ( 0.55nsec).

    3) I am not sure about this, I will get back to you on this.

    Best Regards,
    Anand
