Saturation of of the sensor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004EVM, FDC1004

Hi,

I am measuring on different parts of a material (concrete) using the evaluation board FDC1004EVM. Unfortunately, the sensor gets saturated (15pF), on every area of the material (has different thicknesses) and therefore no distinction between the area - regarding capacitive value. What can I do to increase the input-range (because I know, there is difference in capacitive value).

According to the datasheet the maximum offset capacitance can be 100pF. What does this exactly mean?

  • Hi James,

While you cannot change the full-scale input range of the FDC1004, you can use the CAPDAC to shift the input range. The CAPDAC is a configurable offset capacitance for each channel. The ~100pF maximum offset capacitance you mentioned refers to the CAPDAC. Please see section 8.3.2 of the datasheet for a more detailed explanation of the CAPDAC.

    Regards,
