HDC1080: Questions about basic operation

Part Number: HDC1080
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC2010, HDC2080

Hello team,

I have several questions about HDC1080 basic operation as below.

1) What does the "Trigger the measurement" mean? (8.5.1.3 Device measurement configuration) Does it mean that HDC1080 conversion cycle does not work always, only 1 time by 1 trigger?

2) When the MODE bit (=Bit[12]) is 1, should we wait for sum of the conversion time of both humidity and temperature? (e.g. 6.5ms+6.35ms=12.85ms)

3) How far should we consider the variation of the conversion time in worst case?

4) What is the ADC topology? (SAR or Delta-Sigma)

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Shinya-san,

    1. The device requires a manual trigger, which is invoked through software.  After a conversion is triggered, the device performs a humidity and temperature conversion and latches the contents to it's internal data registers.  This procedure is described in page 12 of the datasheet.

    2. When MODE bit is set to '1', both temp and humidity values are returned. Yes, the wait time you described is correct.

    3. This parameter is specified by design and/or characterization and is not tested in production.

    4. Hi Shinya, the ADC is unique and unfortunately I'm not able to publish information regarding it's design.

Please let me know if this answers all questions you may have pertaining to the HDC1080 device.  We have newer products with faster conversion times and a programmable sampling rate: HDC2010, HDC2080.

    Best Regards,

    Matt

  • Thanks a lot, Matt-san.
I've got key points how to use HDC and device selection.
