Linux/IWR1443BOOST: Distance measurement doesn't match with ground truth

Part Number: IWR1443BOOST

Tool/software: Linux

Using the IWR1443BOOST with ROS. I'm saving the x,y,z coordinates from the pointcloud data to geometry_msgs format and publishing them. There is a difference of 50-60mm in my distance measurements from the ground truth. Reading shown below-

30mm ground truth -> 76mm.

60mm ground truth -> 113mm.

140mm ground truth -> 222mm.

720mm ground truth -> 783mm.

Is this something that happens at lower distances? Or is it a calibration issue?

Also, where does the 0,0,0 lie on the board?

Thank you.

  • Hello Rupak,

    The mmWave sensor EVM must be calibrated in order for the sensor measurements to match the ground truth. Please see section "6. 8. Range Bias and Rx Channel Gain/Offset Measurement and Compensation" in the mmWave SDK 1.2 user guide for more information.

    Also, the origin in ROS (0,0,0) is at the center of the antenna on the EVM.
