Does someone know it takes how long time to transfer the raw adc data to MCU, and takes how long time to transfer the 1D FFT output to MCU from IWR1443Boost?

Hi Feng,

I'm assuming you are transferring everything over UART, SPI, or I2C. Please mention otherwise. Transferring the raw ADC data over those interfaces is not typically done for real-time usage and would depend directly on the chirp configuration selected so we would not have that timing information.

We need transfer the magnitude or log magnitude of FFT to MCU, do you know the transfer time?

Hi Feng,

The transfer time for the FFT data would be directly dependent on the FFT size which corresponds to the number of ADC samples set in the chirp configuration. The transfer time will also depend on the speed of the interface chosen. For example, the UART is typically setup for 921600 baud (bits per second).

Can you give an example for the calculation, such as FFT size 1024, ADC samples 5500, what is the time needed to transfer the data from IWR1443 to MCU through UTART.

Hi Feng,

Assuming 16-bit I and 16-bit Q (complex data) that would be 4 bytes per FFT sample. So 1024 FFT samples x 4 bytes per sample = 4096 bytes to be transferred. For UART, the transfer speed would be 921600 bits_per_second / 8 bits_per_byte = 115200 bytes_per_second. So the minimum amount of time required to transfer the data over UART would be 4096 bytes / 115200 bytes_per_second = 0.036 sec.
