IWR1642: which board (IWR1642 or IWR1443) is better to implement beamforming?

Part Number: IWR1642
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1443, , MMWAVE-SDK

Hi,

Now, we have IWR1443 and IWR1642 EVMs. For research process, we want to implement our own beamforming and detection and classification methods for data processing. Could you please suggest which board fits better for this goal: with HWA (IWR1443) or with DSP (IWR1642)? And which tools are needed?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Jiadi

  • Hi Jiadi,

If you are looking to implement TX beamforming, please note that none of these devices support TX beamforming as they do not have the required TX phase shifters.

For RX side beamforming as well advanced processing such as tracking and classification, IWR1642 is the right device as it includes the C674x DSP.  You'll need the MMWAVE-SDK to develop software for these devices. Please look at the following page to learn about the various tools available for chirp design, data capture and software development with TIs radar devices: http://www.ti.com/sensors/mmwave/iwr/getting-started.html

We also have various demos (with source code and CCS projects) and experiments available under mmWave Industrial Toolbox on TI Resource Explorer.

  • Hi Nitin,

Sorry. Actually I want to ask whether we can implement beamforming algorithms to determine angle of arrival.

I have create a new thread to ask about it. You can close this thread.

    Thank you.
