OPT101: is Photovoltaic mode possible (ignore Rf)

If we leave pin 4 (feedback Rf) open can we expect the device to operate in photovoltaic mode.

How will the pedestal voltage Vb affect that?

I only need HIGH or LOW outputs, just need a simple sunset/sunrise detection ON-OFF

Hi Tim,

Sounds like you are trying to circumvent the op amp and just use the photodiode of the device through pin 2, correct? If this is the case it looks like it will work to me once the op amp saturates. Since this is not something that we have tried likely the best way will be to test it on the samples that you have to see how it performs. I will also check with some other members of my team as well to see if they can think of any concerns here.

Hi Alex,

I haven’t had the time to test it at the moment.... I’ll probably put it on a prototype PCB along with other light detectors to compare performances.

Currently on a mini-holiday by a rough stormy sea!
