OPT8241: OPT8241: cdk-evm Does Not Initialize

Part Number: OPT8241
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT9221

In the process of trying to bring up the OPT-8241-cdk-evm, it seems that the laptop is having trouble initializing the eval board. The machine is a Win 7 machine with USB 2 ports. The voxel viewer downloaded and installed cleanly. The LEDs indicate the board powered up correctly. The Master LED is on and green. The Chipset LED is on and blue and the Status LED is on and red. The USB drivers auto-installed cleanly also. When I bring up the Voxel viewer, I get a Video Mode pop-up that says it "Failed to set frame rate as 30.00fps". When I bring up File->Select Depth Camera, it recognizes the camera is connected, however there is not video.

Suggestions?

  • Hi Bob,

Is this the first time you are trying to power on the CDK. Did you create any custome profile ?

    Regards

    Nithin

  • Hi Nithin,

This is the first time it was powered up. We bought it through Digi-Key and just followed the Quick Start Guide that came in the box. We did not create any customer profile.

    Regards,

    Bob

  • Bob,

Is this still a problem? Can you try updating OPT9221 firmware and see if that goes through? The process for doing this update is present in the EVM documentation.
Could you also try another USB port in the same computer/another computer and see if that works?

    Regards,
    Subhash
  • Hi Subhash,

This is definitely still a problem. I have tried several computers (one running Win 10) and several USB ports and it always produces the same result. I'll try to update the 9221 firmware.

Is it possible to speed up the responses. The process of waiting 1-2 weeks for a reply is a problem. Although I like the TI design and hardware, at the direction of management, we are starting to look at alternatives due to the slow response. We need to get this resolved ASAP. The targeted application has a projected volume of about 3,500 cameras and we are on a tight schedule.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Bob

  • Bob,

Sorry for the late response. Kindly let us know the results after you try to update the firmware. If updating the firmware does not solve your problem, kindly return your evm and ask for a replacement through this portal

    Customer return portal

The board could be damaged during transit

  • I updated firmware on the eval board and the problem was identical. I then returned the eval unit to the distributor for replacement. I received the replacement on October 29 and powered the new evaluation module up today (Oct 30). The problem was identical to the original evaluation board. The board powers up fine and links to the Voxel Viewer. The LEDs indicate the correct colors. The data log indicates it executes the code fine initially, however I get the following log message and streaming does not start:

INFO: Camera System: Successfully refreshed parameters for TintinCDKCamera(0::4551:9105::1097956::10979561099882).

    INFO: ToFCameraBase: Starting with 320x240@30.001fps

ERROR: USBIO Could not transfer '0' bytes

    ...

This message is repeated several times followed by a message that it is resetting the USBBulkStreamer.

I tried downloading the Voxel Viewer zip file again and re-installed it. I get the same result.

    Suggestions?

    Regards,

    Bob

  • Hi Bob,

This seems to be some problem with the USB port. It has happened to me and it has been typically computer specific or in some cases, it works when I change the USB port. In your case, it seems that the software installs fine and the hardware powers up as well. Assuming a standard Windows setup, it should work.
Can you try to change the profile of the camera? You can see how to change the profile in the user guide for Voxel Viewer.

    Subhash
  • Hi Bob,

Please let us know if this is still a problem.
