HDC2080: In outdoor unit

Hi team,

When using our humidity and temp sensors device (like the HDC2080) in outdoor units/products, do customers need any sort of waterproof case or something like that?

Hello Sergio,

I would say yes, it would require a waterproof case to avoid water to get into the device, which could cause a saturation. However it needs to be permeable so that humidity sensing still works.

Hello Sergio,

Let me check with the team on any specific type, but I have seen sintered metal mesh encasing as a waterproof but humidity permeable casing.

Hi Sergio,
The materials you need to explore to protect the system from water and dust at the same time allow the molecules of water vapor to measure RH (relative humidity) have to be IP67 rated. That means:
"It is 100% protected against solid objects like dust and sand, and it has been tested to work for at least 30 minutes while under 15cm to 1m of water"

At this point we don't have an specific material to recommend, since it will depends on your cost structure and needs.
