FDC2114: FDC2114

Part Number: FDC2114

Hi Sirs,

I would like to know if FDC2114(Capacitance-to-Digital Converter) can be used for measuring the capacitance variation of sensing head in torch height controller system.

Just like the page 25(Preamplifier) of below link:

Thanks.

  • Kenny,

That is probably not a good fit for the FDC2114, but I do not know much about that application. The FDC2114 really shines with relative measurements, which is why hand proximity/touch sensing and liquid level sensing both shine.

In general, here are a few guidelines for any sort of precise inductive/capacitive sensing:
    - Standard target (if the target will be of various uncontrolled shapes and materials, then a precision measurement will be difficult or impossible)
    - Relative measurements are best (there will be drift due to temperature and oscillator drifts. Using a reference channel can be used to mitigate this.
    - Relative size of the sensor to the distance of the target (usually the bigger the sensor the better)
