DRV425EVM: R1 is magnetic

Part Number: DRV425EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV425, , ADS1256

I'm looking to use the DRV425 for an amateur earth field magnetometer, and the EVM avoids having to handsolder this tiny part

I swapped R1 to 470 ohm to maximise sensitivity, and noted that the original 100 ohm R1 resistor is magnetic - that is the DRV425 detects around 5-10 uT as it is moved over the chip's surface. It's mounted near enough I suspect it would add a detectable soft-iron distortion to the earth's field.

This won't affect my application, but it might be worth seeking non-magnetic parts when the next batch of DRV425EVM boards are assembled. I suspect this may be a nickel containing material in the chip resistor's terminations.

Otherwise this IC looks very promising paired to an ADS1256 as the ADC

  • David,

Thanks for using the Forum. I will look over the BOM and make modifications as needed. Thanks for the update. I know there was some components that were verified and others were chosen based on documentation. If one of the components were overlooked I will change them as soon as possible.
