AWR1642: Production line testing

HI,

How do  TI validate radar chip performance on the production line, things like checking chirping frequency, transmitting power, antenna loss and etc?  basically we wanted to understand  how to  validate AWR1642-based module on production line.     can TI share the information of the spec that is be tested against in term of radar performance on the production line? also the software/app notes for production line testing.

    At the chip level production line we measure all the RF parameters like frequency , TX power , RX gain etc. by performing conducted test at the device pins . There is no antenna involved and no radiated measurements done in our production line. But at the module level you have antenna and you would have to do radiated measurements. This is something we do not do.
    But from our experience you would have to use a corner reflector of known RCS kept at a fixed distance in an anechoic chamber kept at zero angle and measurement from each TX to each RX is taken. Any phase mismatch between the channels needs to be calibrated out, this mismatch can be caused by PCB trace and antenna.

    Can you please share your conducted test setup? like equipment maker model no. ? Radiated testing in an anechoic  chamber doesn't sound practical for production line. would it possible to put some kind of switching connector and do conducted testing for calibration?  What kind of SW do you use for production line to measure all the RF parameters? and can we use them as the baseline?

    We are planning ahead and try  to understand what tests need to be done to validate Radar parameters, therefore we need first get information/help from you to start with. We don't know what kind of tests needed to make sure our modules meet "spec"( even no idea what it is!).

    We do not have module level production test details, but you would need to do some measurements in radiated manner in a clean environment like anechoic chamber. Most common test that is done is to keep a corner reflector at a fixed distance and measure the received signal level, range and angle.

    I am afraid the chip production testing cannot be shared. As indicated earlier, this would be very different from the module level testing and hence we think it might not be very helpful to you.
