AWR1243BOOST: SPI Connect RESP TIMEOUT issue in mmWave Studio with a DCA1000EVM

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, , UNIFLASH, AWR1243, AWR1443BOOST, AWR1443

Using mmWave Studio 1.0.0.0 connected to a DCA1000EVM & AWR1243BOOST EVM, the following error is posted when performing a SPI Connect:

Status:Failed, Error Type: RESP TIMEOUT

I have erased the spi flash using UniFlash, but this did not fix the problem.

The SOP mode is 2 (SOP1 & 2 jumpers installed and 3 is out).

The system had functioned earlier, producing and displaying processed data. Upon one of the restarts, the SPI connect problem began as shown below:

  • Pete,

Usually when we see an RESP TIMEOUT when attempting to connect SPI, this usually indicates that there is a mismatch between the firmware version being loaded to the device and the firmware version required by the device. However, this does not appear to be the case here. What was different between this run that generated the error and you previous runs?

Please make sure that SOP0 and SOP1 are closed when using the AWR1243 + DCA1000EVM configuration in mmWave Studio. I would also recommend power cycling both devices and restarting mmWave Studio.

    Regards,
    Kyle
  • Thanks Kyle for your reply.

I verified that the SOP0 and SOP1 are closed and SOP2 is opened. I have also cycled power on the device and restarted mmWave Studio a number of times. This includes starting from a fresh powerup on the host computer. I also have another DCA1000EVM + AWR1443BOOST EVM, which currently still works using mmWave Studio.

I started experiencing the issue with the DCA1000EVM + AWR1243 while running the DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua script.

    Regards,

    Peter

  • Pete,

For the DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua script, this script can only be used after the AWR1443 or AWR1243 is brought out of a hard reset (i.e. power cycle). This script is designed to be used as a reference point to begin development and to show a basic data capture and post processing of the results.
