Hi,

Though the antenna pattern is 120 degree in azimuth and 20 degree in elevation.

with IWR 1642 using any of 2Rx, 1Tx or 2Tx 4 Rx why it is not possible to get the range of object which is at, azimuth 0 degree and elevation 10 degree.

The mmwave demo is able to detect obly in azimuth of 120 degree. How do make it to work in elevation also.

Is is also fine if it gives range of this object. Since to get x,y,z direction extra Tx is required.

Range should be able to calculate using existing combination with iwr1642.

Hello Karthik,

The physical antenna design defines the field-of-view of the antenna (not the software running on the device). You can get more information about the antenna on the IWR1642BOOST EVM in the IWR1642BOOST user guide as well as the Antenna Database on the TI Resource Explorer.

"The physical antenna design defines the field-of-view of the antenna (not the software running on the device)"- I agree this point. ...But my question is if the object is not in 0 degree elevation plane,but is within +/- 15 degree as mentioned in data base, can I get the x, y co-ordinate of the object?

Hi Karthik,

The edges of the +/-15° field of view listed is the point at which the gain of the antenna drops by 6dB relative to the max gain at 0°. Objects can still be detected at the limits if they have a strong enough reflection.

Hi Karthik,

Lowering the CFAR threshold will increase the sensitivity and might allow weaker objects to be detected at the edges of the field-of-view.

Hi Karthik,

The CFAR threshold is typically set as part of the cfarCfg CLI command in the chirp config (.cfg) file. Please search the mmWave SDK user guide for "cfarCfg" for more information.

Hi,

I went through the Cfarconfig command in sdk guide. But was not able to understand it.

Could you pls elaborate what shold be changed in order to detect weaker objects also at the edge values of antenna.

Hi Karthik,

Please look at the "Threshold scale" parameter in the cfarCfg CLI command. Decreasing this threshold will make the device more sensitive.

Hi Karthik,

The antenna design on the IWR1642BOOST EVM provides azimuth angle only (not elevation). You would need a different antenna design to get both azimuth and elevation info.

The antenna design on the IWR6843ISK antenna module provides both azimuth and elevation information.
